Marques’Almeida Takes Home This Year’s LVMH Prize

Designers Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida of the label Marques’Almeida have just made history as the second fashion house to take home the LVMH Prize from the LVMH group. The Portuguese design duo took home €300,000 in addition to winning a year of mentorship from a group of LVMH executives.

Marques and Almeida were in the running against several other designers including Craig Green––who moved the audience to tears with his SS15 show in London––and Simon Porte Jacquemus, the designer behind Jacquemus and second prize winner.

The ceremony took place over the weekend at the newly finished Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris and was presented by Natalie Portman. Though Marques’Almeida is a relatively fresh brand on the scene, with only four years under its belt, the label has proved itself consistently as one to watch out for.

In addition to this year’s prize, Marques’Almeida took home the award for Emerging Womenswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards last year, won a Newgen scholarship, and has sold in high end retailers like Opening Ceremony. This latest win is only expected to further the label’s success, keeping the industry on the edge of its seat.
